BirdsongTree Drawings

BirdsongTree Drawings is a site-specific installation and interactive performance in the Orangery Garden.

A sick or dead tree is revived with smaller paintings of birdsong. The paintings show spectrograms of bird calls attached to the trunk or remaining branches.

At the same time, the tree is invited to participate in a performance, a participatory scenography for visitors.

Any visitor who is so inclined can add a drawing of an imaginary bird song or bird song frequency. Visitors are thus invited to a drawing performance.

In the drawing performance, the participating visitors are involved as actors who draw an imaginary evolving spectrogram, contributing individual visual expression, on expanding canvases (paper rolls) with their bodies and hands. This canvas extends outward from the tree in a circular or spiral pattern.
