A science fiction film about the gold rush in the Smelting Mountains and the experiences of the last surviving female gold miner.

Created by choreographer/ media artist Johannes Birringer during the pandemic summer of 2021, the film based on legends from the history of the original ‚Goldbach‘ region in Schmelz, a village in the Saarland. Anette Delarosa plays the leading role and collaborates on the creation of a fictional documentary on the gold rush that began in the second half of the 19th century and was enacted only by women in the area – her character, Lucia Stäudten, being the last surviving gold prospector.

How might we imagine the development of our town—situated in the hilly uplands of northern Saarland—had it become widely known that female prospectors had struck gold in the *Großer Horst* during the second half of the 19th century? A new film traces this secret history of a mythical event; it will be screened alongside various artworks created by the Interaction Laboratory.

“How Much of These Hills Is Gold”—a short film by internationally renowned choreographer and media artist Johannes Birringer—was produced during the pandemic summer of 2021 and draws upon legends from the history of the district originally known as Goldbach. Anette Delarosa stars in the lead role. Birringer is the longtime director of the International Interaction Laboratory, an organization whose choreographic and media works have been created at the former Göttelborn colliery since 2003. With this new project, he presents a fictional study of the Goldbach Valley and the local quarry—a narrative of the nearly impossible that fuses into a vivid, surreal fantasy.

Wie stellt man sich die Entwicklung unseres Ortes im nordsaarländischen Berg- und Hügelland vor, wenn überregional bekannt geworden wäre, dass Goldgräberinnen im Grossen Horst fündig geworden waren in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts? Nur Frauen war es erlaubt, nach Gold zu schürfen; die Männer wurden in die Steinkohlegruben unter Tage geschickt. Dieser geheimen Geschichte eines mythischen Geschehens spürt ein neuer Film nach, der zusammen mit verschiedenen Malkunstwerken des Interaktionslabors gezeigt wird.

“Wieviel von diesen Hügeln ist Gold” – der Kurzfilm des international renommierten Choreographen und Medienkünstlers Johannes Birringer entstand während des Pandemiesommers 2021 und basiert auf Legenden aus der Geschichte des ursprünglichen Ortsteils Goldbach (des Dorfs Schmelz im Saarland). Anette Delarosa spielt die Hauptrolle. Birringer ist langjähriger Leiter des Internationalen Interaktionslabors, dessen Choreografien und Medienarbeiten seit 2003 in der ehemaligen Göttelborner Grube entstanden. Mit seinem neuen Projekt entwickelt er eine fiktive Studie des Goldbachtals und des Steinbruchs – die Narration des fast Unmöglichen verschmilzt zu lebendiger, surrealer Phantasie.
